Last year, the Eastern Greene Football Team went all the way to the State Finals. This year’s football team is hoping to repeat that season with a different outcome in the end. That task will be a tough feat to achieve with the loss of many key players and a new head coach with the departure of Coach Paridaen. First year Head Coach, Travis Wray, is familiar with this team as he was the defensive coordinator from last year’s State Runner-up team.
Coach Wray believes this year’s team has the ability and drive to repeat last year’s team. Key players are returning for the Thunderbirds as well. Coach Wray hopes that these players will help the younger players to buy into this system and continue the success that last year’s team had all season long.
Coach Wray and the Thunderbird Football Team have been working hard all summer long for that one goal: to play in Lucas Oil again during Thanksgiving Break. Their quest for that begins next week, August 17th at 7:00 p.m. when Springs Valley comes to EG territory for the 1st game of the season. Last year’s game at Springs Valley was a defensive struggle for both teams as both offenses seemed to score at will especially after making halftime adjustments. Coach Wray is very optimistic that this year’s defense will be well-prepared for the Blackhawks at home.
Good luck to the EG Football Team, Coach Wray, and staff.
