Eastern Greene has a new coach at the helm for the Thunderbirds. EG Alum, Jamie Hudson, comes back to Eastern Greene with tradition being his first philosophy of teachings. Coach Hudson wants to get Eastern Greene Basketball back to the way they were ten to fifteen years ago. Coach Hudson wants the players to remember those days where Eastern Greene played for sectional and regional trophies on annual basis. The first step for the players is for them to buy into this philosophy and with the help of others, the Thunderbirds are doing just that. Right now the Thunderbirds are gearing up for the season with it just being a week away. The players are in the gym, in the weight room, and conditioning so that they can reach their ultimate goal of winning a sectional championship.
There is going to be speed bumps along the way as the Thunderbird roster isn’t very big. With less than 20 players in the high school program, there will be some learning curves for everyone. Coach Hudson is hoping that the learning curve has already begun and that the Thunderbirds will gel sooner rather than later. The Thunderbirds also are a very young team. With 1 senior on the roster to start the season, the Thunderbirds will have to rely on some younger players to step up and have big games and it might be someone different each night.
Everyone is looking forward to this season to see what the Thunderbirds can accomplish this year and in the future. EG’s first game will be at North Central on November 30th with the JV contest starting at 6:00 p.m. However, you can come see what the Thunderbirds will look like on Saturday, November 23rd when EG is having Thunderbird Madness. There will be a chili supper and the middle school basketball teams will be playing as well before the JV and Varsity play. GOOD LUCK THIS SEASON AND GO THUNDERBIRDS!!!
