The Eastern Greene Varsity Football Team starts their season with a victory over Springs Valley. Final score 16-7. The Eastern Greene Football Defensive Team showed some great strength on Friday night after falling behind 7-0 early in the game. After Springs Valley scored on their opening drive of the season, they onside kicked successfully to regain control of the ball. The Eastern Greene Defense saw a lot of action all night and held each time after the opening drive.
Late in the 1st quarter on Eastern Greene’s 1st offensive possession, QB Lyrik Baker hit TE Bryan Rippy in stride for an 80 yard catch and run. Rippy was brought down at the 2 yard line where senior Ty Rollins did the rest, scoring a TD on the next play. Baker handed the ball to Rippy on the 2 point conversion and the Thunderbirds lead 8-7 after the first quarter. The rest of the 1st half saw a lot of defensive stops as neither team scored before halftime.

From then on out it was again the defenses that showed their strength as neither team scored until 3 minutes to go in the game when Springs Valley was kicking out of their endzone and took a safety. After the safety, they successfully got another onside kick however Eastern Greene stop them on 4th down to get the ball back at the end and run out the remaining time on the clock.
