Definitely not the outcome that 1st year Head Coach, Roy Bruce, wanted for Eastern Greene in his 1st regular season game with the Thunderbirds. However, there was many positive and just some small adjustments that need to be fixed before Week 2. One positive for the Thunderbirds was their offense. The Thunderbirds moved the ball very well most of the game and just couldn’t get to the end zone in the 1st half. For the other side, that wasn’t a problem in the first half as EG fell behind 22-0 before halftime. The Thunderbirds had some penalties on defense that just hurt their chances in the first half. Multiple times the Thunderbirds had the Blackhawks in long 3rd down opportunities but penalties cost the Thunderbirds yards and the Blackhawks converted and scored each time.

The 2nd half the Thunderbirds made adjustments and again the offense moved down the field on the Blackhawks and scored a TD in the opening drive. The 2 point conversion was good by Ty Rollins 3 yard run and the Thunderbirds were on the board and back in the game at 22-8. The defense got stop after stop forcing a punt and then a turnover on downs and another punt however now the time was an issue. On the 2nd punt for the Blackhawks, Tristan Vincz took it at the 30 yard line and ran to the outside for a 70 yard punt return for a TD. The 2 point conversion fail and the score was 22-14 with 2:32 to go in the game. The Blackhawks scored on 2 plays and made the game 30-14 with their 2 point conversion and the ballgame was out of reach again for the Thunderbirds. The Thunderbirds turned the ball over on downs and the game ended with a score of 30-14.

EG falls to 0-1 on the season and now hosts Southwest Conference opponent, North Knox, on Friday, August 30th at 7:00 p.m. GO THUNDERBIRDS!!
